Diesel and construction material prices since your bid
Fuel and materials can move a lot between the day a price is set and the day the work gets done. Pick your bid date to see how far diesel and the main construction materials have moved since then. Use it to check a change-order request, an escalation clause or your next bid.

Prices next to the weather, for each job
On an AtmosDays job, the same comparison sits next to the job's weather record: work days lost to rain, wind, heat or cold, and how much fuel and materials moved since the bid. Add the gallons or dollars in your bid for a rough dollar figure. The PDF report shows both, month by month. See a sample report (PDF).
Many contracts only adjust for fuel or materials when they have a price-adjustment or escalation clause, and then the clause's own index, base date and formula decide what is owed. Some state transportation departments publish their own monthly fuel and asphalt indexes for those clauses; if your contract names one, use it.
About these numbers
- Diesel is the EIA weekly average retail price of on-highway diesel for the job's region, in dollars a gallon. Material lines are national Bureau of Labor Statistics producer price indexes: they show how much prices moved, not what your supplier charges.
- The value "at bid" is the last one on or before the bid date: the bid week for diesel, the bid month for an index. BLS can revise an index for four months after it first comes out, so recent months are marked preliminary.
- Dollar figures are rough estimates (gallons times the price change, or the amount in the bid times the percent change). If your contract has a price-adjustment or escalation clause, its own index, base date and formula decide what is owed. AtmosDays shows what prices did; it does not forecast them or decide what anyone owes.
- Data: U.S. Energy Information Administration (weekly retail diesel) and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (producer price indexes), retrieved from FRED, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
