For law firms, property managers, insurers and claims consultants

What was the weather at that address, at that time?

Enter an address, a date and (if you have one) a time. AtmosDays gathers the public weather record for that place and moment: the nearest airport's hour-by-hour reports word for word, the nearest NOAA station's daily numbers, National Weather Service warnings for the address and storm reports nearby, as one PDF and a spreadsheet, with a link to every original record.

Slip or fall on snow or ice

Whether snow, sleet or freezing rain was falling near the time of a fall, when it last fell, how cold it was in the 24 hours before, snow on the ground, ice build-up measured at the airport, and the winter weather warnings and advisories for the address.

Vehicle crash

Visibility, fog, rain, snow and ice at the nearest airport around the time of a crash, the temperature, wind and gusts, hours with precipitation that day, and advisories such as dense fog or winter weather.

Closed for weather

For each day a business, site or office was closed (up to 7 days): the National Weather Service warnings and advisories in effect for the address, hours of thunder, snow, ice and low visibility at the airport, and the strongest gusts.

Why links to the source matter

Weather summaries are only as good as their sources. Each report lists the exact airport and NOAA station it used, how far each is from the address, and a link that opens the original record for the same dates, so anyone reviewing the file can check every number. Times are shown in the address's local time.

What it isn't

AtmosDays documents the weather only. It does not say what caused a fall, a crash or damage, who was at fault, whether a storm was legally "in progress", or whether closing was required. The nearest airport or NOAA station can be miles from the address, and a walkway or road can differ from the airport (shade, drainage, plowing, salting, traffic). Reports are public data summaries, not expert testimony. For court, NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information can provide certified copies of station records.

Where the data comes from

Airport weather reports (METAR) from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet archive at Iowa State University, NOAA NCEI daily station summaries, NOAA Storm Prediction Center storm reports, and National Weather Service watches, warnings and advisories. All public.
